This is Gerard Baudin, a French Police Officer and long-time friend of the Durand family. Being a French citizen and a Vichy-controlled Policeman is a very difficult position. He is of French nationality and has lived in Paris all his life, however, as a police officer he controlled by the Vichy government which is sympathetic to Nazi control, and must enforce their new fascist laws against his own people. He tries to keep Eliza out of trouble, but at the risk of being discovered by the Nazis as a double-agent.
